“A few weeks ago I was kindly invited to attend an event at the Chi Yu Wellness centre to hear all about their latest nutritional products from Well Well Well and test out a few of their most popular treatments.
If you were wondering where the name of this spa comes from “chi yu” actually means ‘healing’ in Japanese. ‘Shizen chiyu ryoku’ means the body’s self-healing ability. The centre is very much targeted at improving your state of physical well being using a mix of modern western and traditional Japanese methods, which are reflected in the spa’s contemporary, yet classic Japanese interiors. The are five treatment rooms (including a double treatment room), which are individually themed to reflect the ethos of chi yu and provide a tranquil environment. Chi Yu also incorporates a wellbeing boutique, where you can purchase a selection of skin care, teas, supplements, candles and other luxury home & travel accessories.” Read more (article link) or PDF version.

Belinda was right. Heaven is a place on earth, and I’m about to give you the address and a discount to ease you through the pearly gates.
It is called the Chi Yu Wellness Centre. When I first walked in the doors of this little haven just off Marylebone High Street, I really didn’t feel very well. I’d been incinerating the candle at both ends and hadn’t been able to switch off for days. Most of you will know the symptoms: racing mind and racing heart, married with the feeling you spend your life racing around town in the big rat race. Read more (article link), or PDF version. Therapists are a mixed bag; they all look great in brochures but very few actually leave you feeling like your money has been well spent. On this occasion however, I am pleased to say that a session with Mami Tsang, the founder of Chi Yu, was more than worth every penny and extremely memorable!
After an initial 15 minute consultation; more thorough than any I’ve had to date, I opted for a signature massage using aromatherapy oils. Using a combination of Shiatsu, Swedish and Thai massage techniques, with a bit of reflexology, I was treated to one of the best and most effective treatments to date. My feet are always tired. From running around town to walking to and from work daily, I’m convinced my feet would sleep for a few months if they were given the chance. I dragged them along to the urban zen of Chi-Yu Wellness Spa situated behind Marble Arch in London for a spot of reflexology. I had read nothing but amazing reviews of reflexology, and how it can pinpoint problem areas in the rest of your body so I was excited but anxious; could my therapist tell that I eat far too much chocolate or bemoan the fact my pedicures are less than frequent? Luckily not, but instead she could tell that I suffer from minor digestive problems (I do), I have tension in my left shoulder (again, guilty) and even that I often hold my true thoughts inside (spooky, as yes, I do). In basic terms, reflexology is a wonderful, revitalising, soothing foot massage but if you want it to at Chi-Yu, it goes a lot deeper than that. If you are having any health problems, even something as run of the mill as a cold, tell the reflexologist and they can focus their attention on the corresponding area of your foot.
I left the Chi-Yu Wellness Spa with a definite spring in my step plus was shown which part of my foot attributed to my digestive system – no more bad tum for me.

A Slice Of Heaven: Chi Yu Wellness Centre
“As a working woman whose beauty and pampering regime consists of a luke warm, half empty bathtub with a squirt of Lynx shower gel at the end of a long week, going to Chi Yu Wellness Centre is like someone’s parted the clouds above your head, shone some sun through and said ‘Hey, this is for you’.
Chi Yu Wellness Centre in Marylebone is ringing in the Chinese New Year in true holistic, therapeutic; ‘they are going to make you feel brand new style’. The ladies at Chi Yu are a skilled, experienced group of caring women who make you feel at ease and very much at home as soon as your soon-to-be-treated toes step in the door.” Read more (article link)
With the Chinese New Year celebrations over, it’s time to get serious: 2012 is the Year of the Water Dragon, a year that is destined for many of us to kick annoying bad habits, have a stronger sense of empathy towards others and encourage us to co-operate with natural energies, rather than fighting them.
Get to harnessing this energy and make it a year to remember with the Chi Yu Wellness Centre in London, which has created a range of treatments to do just that. From an Oriental Aromatherapy Massage, using essential oils to balance the five elements, to the Blueberry Bliss Firming Body Treatment, which builds on the water element of the dragon sign to hydrate the body. If you fancy getting your chi on, find out more about the centre’s treatments – and how they can help to make this your best year yet – by visiting the Chi-Yu website here.
Let’s face it; you’re almost certainly over-stressed. You probably don’t get enough sleep, it’s likely that you work longer hours than you should, and there’s every chance that your commute to work takes at least thirty rage-filled minutes. But, hey, that’s modern life. It’s not something you give any thought. I mean – it’s not as if there’s some treatment capable of completely alleviating your stress, is there? Except, in a little corner of Marylebone, there is…
Chi Yu is based in a small, unassuming building near the corner of George Street. It styles itself as a Wellness Centre, which is a phrase vague enough to set off alarm bells in the heads of ‘alternative therapy’ skeptics – myself very much included. The foyer is staffed by an impossibly serene and soft-spoken receptionist, and filled with incense, vaguely Eastern ambient music, and complimentary puffed rice snacks. It feels cozy, but I am unable to shake off the lingering concern that someone is about to read my aura, and then use an obscure mix of homeopathic tinctures to communicate with my dead cat.
My practitioner arrives – Chi Yu’s founder Mami Tsang, an impossibly petite Japanese woman. She leads me into the dimly lit treatment room, where she quizzes me on my life. Am I stressed? Of course I am. She nods, sympathetically. Any other pain? Well, as it happens, I’m recovering from a broken ankle. She immediately glances at the ankle, assesses my posture, and decides what must be done. Clad in a towel, I lay down on the padded table, and my worries instantly evaporate – along with a good portion of my stress. Chi Yu’s speciality is integrated therapy – a bespoke combination of different forms of massage and acupuncture, tailored precisely to the needs of the patient.
