Healing Holidays – Benefits of Acupuncture

Healing Holidays – Benefits of Acupuncture

Mami Tsang, owner and complementary practitioner of chi yu, contributed to the blog of Healing Holidays by explaining the Benefits of Acupuncture, excerpt below:

Acupuncture has been practiced in China for thousands of years as part of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is based on the belief that illness can occur when the flow of life force energy known as Qi, which runs through the body in meridians or channels, become stagnant. During the acupuncture treatment, very fine sterile needles are carefully inserted into specific acupuncture points located on different areas of the body to restore the flow of Qi and in turn restore health.

Acupuncture has been known to treat a range of health conditions. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), there are over 40 different conditions and symptoms that are treated effectively by acupuncture, including rheumatoid arthritis, nausea, TMJ, headache, menstrual pain, and lower back pain. Based on scientific evidence, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) also recommends acupuncture as a treatment for chronic lower back pain, chronic tension headaches and migraines. waiting-area-1

With the Chinese New Year celebrations over, it’s time to get serious: 2012 is the Year of the Water Dragon, a year that is destined for many of us to kick annoying bad habits, have a stronger sense of empathy towards others and encourage us to co-operate with natural energies, rather than fighting them.

Get to harnessing this energy and make it a year to remember with the Chi Yu Wellness Centre in London, which has created a range of treatments to do just that. From an Oriental Aromatherapy Massage, using essential oils to balance the five elements, to the Blueberry Bliss Firming Body Treatment, which builds on the water element of the dragon sign to hydrate the body. If you fancy getting your chi on, find out more about the centre’s treatments – and how they can help to make this your best year yet – by visiting the Chi-Yu website here.
